Not everyone is set on becoming a lawyer, a doctor, or one of the other more “traditional” careers. In fact, now more than ever, students are considering a large variety of careers. There are just so many options, after all.

Finding scholarships for these more niche careers can be difficult.  Perhaps their uniqueness creates this difficulty? Honestly, we’re not sure. One thing we do know is that “difficult” does not mean “impossible”.  In order to prove our theory, we dug around to find a few niche-like careers that have scholarships!

High school seniors, undergraduates, and graduates may apply. The fitness scholarship supports students focusing on health and fitness related careers. Academic achievement and extracurricular activities are taken into applicant consideration.

2. Future Mechanic Grant

Provider: Trade School Future

Amount: $1,000

Submit: Essay (Maximum 500 words)

Students of a trade or vocational school, 2 or 4 year university, accredited community college or other automotive higher education institution. Students interested in an automotive degree or certification are encouraged to apply.

3. Go Global Scholarship

Provider: BRIC Language Systems

Amount: $1,000

Submit: Essay (500-1,000 words)

Any students studying a foreign language may apply. Students with experience or a desire to study abroad are encouraged to apply. This scholarship asks for an explanation of the applicant’s personal language learning experience and thoughts on international study.

4. Whirlwind Steel Buildings Scholarship

Provider: Whirlwind Steel

Amount: $1,000

Submit: Essay (500 words) and Video (60 second in length)

Students pursuing a career in construction, engineering, or architecture may apply. Whirlwind Steel would like to know what inspired each applicant to enter a construction-related field.

5. Reedsy Creative Writing Scholarship

Provider: Reedsy


Submit: A sample chapter (1,500 to 7,500 words)

Any creative writing students from the US, Canada, and Australia may apply. This scholarship is meant to encourage and help nurture the next generation of creative writers. The sample chapter should be from original novel applicants are currently writing, or have written and did not finish.

Amount: $1,000

Submit: Article (750-1,000 words)

High school seniors and undergraduates may apply. The scholarship is interested in applicants who enjoy researching and writing. Applicants are encouraged to add elements such as video or infographic to support their article.

7. Dolphin Galleries Scholarship for the Visual & Creative Arts

Provider: Dolphin Galleries

Amount: $1,000

Submit: Selection of 5 works (including a 100 word description for each)

Students must pursue an arts related major or minor. The scholarship asks for the works to relate to the expression of culture in the modern age. The art will be evaluated on originality, creativity, artistic skill, and substance. International students may apply.

8. Future Designer Scholarship

Provider: CardsDirect

Amount: $2,500

Submit: Card artwork

Students with an interest in designing a card are encouraged to apply. CardsDirect does hint at wanting December holiday themed works from applicants!

9. Bartlett Tree Foundation Scholarship

Provider: Bartlett Tree Foundation

Amount: $1,500

Submit: Essay (500 words)

Students must study arboriculture, forestry, urban forestry, horticulture, plant pathology, botany, or other related field. The scholarship asks applicants to describe future aspirations.

10. Cosmetology Scholarship

Provider: Beauty Schools Marketing Group

Amount: $2,500

Submit: Online Application

Students studying cosmetology or any related field may apply. Example majors are esthetics, nail technician, fashion design, electrology, and barbering. More examples can be found on the scholarship page.

11. Square Cow Movers Scholarship for Community Impact

Amount: $1,000

Submit: Essay (1,800 to 2,500 words)

Students with an interest in community impact are encouraged to apply. The scholarship asks applicants to delve into explaining the important relationship between community projects and businesses.
