Massive Scholarships for Students in Massachusetts for 2021

In 1891, Springfield College instructor and graduate student James Naismith founded basketball right in Massachusetts. He designed the game and later went on to become an athletic director and coach. We might not be on James’s level yet, but hopefully college will give you the tools to make your own breakthrough.

But how to fund those years of study? Scholarships are a common way students pay for college. And local scholarships in Massachusetts often give you the greatest chance of winning.

1. Public Service Grant Program

Amount: The award shall be equal to the cost of the institution’s full time annual tuition charges

Provider: Massachusetts Department of Higher Education

The Massachusetts Public Service Grant was established for students who have experienced the loss of a parent and/or spouse who is killed or missing in the line of public service duty in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Public Service Grant Program is the only scholarship program not based on demonstrated financial need, but rather entitlement.

2. FMC Skaters Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Provider: FMC Ice Sports

The FMC Skaters Scholarship program was developed in 1993 to provide financial assistance to ice sports participants and recreational ice skaters that demonstrate personal excellence on and off the ice. The scholarships are awarded to ice hockey, figure skating and recreational skaters in June of each year.

3. Greater Worcester Community Foundation Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $5,000

Provider: Greater Worcester Community Foundation

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation Scholarship Program offers many college scholarships, ranging in size from $300 to $5,000. Students apply online from January through early March. Recipients are selected in April and May. Scholarships are awarded for the following academic year beginning in September.
